The
Wichita Vision Development Center is the largest optometric practice in Kansas
devoted solely to children's visual development. We specialize in the diagnosis
and treatment of vision-based learning problem, as
well as crossed or wandering eyes and lazy
eyes.
Beginning
in 1985 we originally saw patients in the therapy room at Child and Family
Optometry. However, as we helped more and more patients and word spread
about the changes vision therapy was making in the
lives of our patients, we found our space too limited to meet the needs of all
those who came to us for help. It became increasingly obvious that the
Wichita area needed a full-time clinic dedicated solely to vision therapy. The
doctors and therapy staff began to dream, and the Wichita Vision Development
Center opened it's doors on January 1, 2000. It seemed appropriate that
the new clinic should make its entrance with the new millennium, for both were
new beginnings full of promise and hope!
The
Wichita Development Center has continued to grow and fulfill its mission to help those
who need our care. We've treated patients from all over Kansas and
northern Oklahoma and see more and more patients each year. In fact, from
our beginnings in the single therapy room twenty years ago until now, we've
calculated that we've provided more than 50,000 hours of therapy! Most
gratifying of all, many of our patients come back to visit and tell us what a
difference our care has made to them. While we may have grown and changed
over the years, our mission has not. We will continue to improve our patients'
vision so they have the visual tools they need for positive changes in their
lives!

Our
Mission
The
Wichita Vision Development Center is dedicated to the hundreds of children who
suffer from undiagnosed vision problems. We commit ourselves to serving all
children whose visual systems make it difficult for them to read, learn, and
remain on task; those facing the unique challenges of living with lazy, crossed,
or wandering eyes; and adults whose compromised visual systems interfere
with their quality of life.
Our
mission is to provide:
Help
by identifying the underlying vision deficits that are hindering the child’s
ability to perform at his or her potential,
Hope
by educating parents and teachers on the steps that can be taken to permanently
correct the problem and tear down the visual barriers blocking the child’s
future.
The
Highest Standard of Treatment
that actively involves the patient, parents, therapy staff, and doctors in a
team effort to permanently restore the child’s visual system to normal,
Compassionate
and Empathetic Support by
offering encouragement and guidance and when necessary, acting as the child’s
advocate with educators and other health care professionals.
Consideration
and Dignity for all Patients,
realizing the distress a dysfunctional vision system places on all our patients,
child and adult alike.
